About Kitty Macdonald

There's something rather special about objects that survive from another time. Dolls' houses, bears, puppets and miniatures carry with them not only the craftsmanship of the people who made them, but memories of the people who once owned and loved them. For more than twenty years, these wonderful pieces have been a constant part of my life.

Kitty Macdonald began in Australia in 2003 from a love of antique and vintage dolls' houses and the remarkable stories they tell. What started as a passion gradually became a specialist business, built on carefully sourcing, researching and matching beautiful pieces with collectors around the world.

Over the years I've handled everything from rare twentieth century dolls' houses to Art Deco treasures, post-war classics and much loved Lundby homes from the 1970s and 1980s. Every house is different. Some have survived remarkably untouched for generations, while others have been carefully restored and enjoyed by many families before finding their way here.

Dolls' houses remain at the heart of Kitty Macdonald, but they have never been my only interest. I've always been drawn to other collectables with character and history, particularly vintage and collectable bears, puppets and miniature furnishings. Pelham Puppets are a natural addition to the collection, with their wonderfully distinctive characters, British heritage and the nostalgia they evoke for so many people.

The bears have much the same appeal. Whether an older bear showing the signs of a life well loved or a beautifully made collectable example, each has its own personality. Alongside the houses, puppets, miniature furniture, books and occasional unexpected finds, they reflect what Kitty Macdonald has always really been about: finding things that are interesting, beautifully made and worth preserving.

I believe buying antique and vintage pieces should be an enjoyable experience. Every item is individually photographed and described as accurately as possible, with honest information about its age, condition and any signs of previous use. These aren't mass produced modern products. They are collectables with their own histories, and part of their charm lies in the lives they have already lived.
